The climbing
wall was set up in 1994 as the Lake District's first dedicated
indoor climbing facility, comprising over 400
square metres of climbing surface. It boasts a large array
of wall types: flat panels with 25 fixed ropes, a 22 metre long
bouldering/leading wall of
Entreprises imprint panels and a superb modern curvy resin
bouldering wall by King Kong Climbing Walls which is heavily
featured as well as having bolt-on holds. 2001 saw the construction
of a 12 metre high tower on which we run abseiling sessions.
It is available for group hire for climbing and abseiling as
long as your group has a suitably qualified instructor.
We also have one of the best cellar boards
in the country. We are unique in that we provide excellent facilities
for complete beginners and experts alike. We cater for
many of the Lakes' residential
outdoor centres as well as visiting groups with our fixed
ropes and slabs. The wall also provides fantastic bouldering
facilities for everyone from national junior champions
through to Sir Chris Bonington. We host regular regional
competitions and run bouldering ladders throughout the
winter.
Introductory
Climbing Lessons
We provide
climbing lessons for complete beginners, whether individuals,
families or larger groups. Beginners are taught the basic
safety principles of tying
a figure-of-8 knot and belaying a partner. Full instruction
is provided along with all necessary equipment. When the
instructor feels that a safe
standard has been reached - typically after an hour - clients
are welcome to stay and climb as long as they wish without
direct supervision.
These lessons cater for all ages, group sizes and abilities
and are a great introduction into this ever-increasingly
popular sport.
Group rate is £9.00 per person.
