Keswick Climbing
Wall Activity Centre was set up in 1995 by two teachers. It was
originally intended to be solely an indoor climbing facility,
but the
partners' combined experience in the provision of outdoor education
and off-site trips for young people made branching into outdoor
activities a logical development.
Outdoor activities now form
the major part of our business, and multi-activity days (MADs)
are understandably our most
popular package. In a typical day clients would sample
3 or possibly 4 of the following activities:
abseiling, assault course, canoeing, climbing, ghyll scrambling,
mountain biking and raft building.
We operate from our
base at Keswick Climbing Wall in the heart of the Northern
Lakes, running activities in and
around the Borrowdale Valley. The proximity of the base
to the activity sites means that the
logistics are as simple as possible. Days are exciting
and action-packed, with transport and changeover times
minimised and quality activity time
maximised.
We can accommodate groups of virtually any
size, from 6 to 100+, all year round. During the summer we
also run MADs for individuals and families. Days run from
10am to 5pm.
The emphasis is very much on fun and safety.
We are extremely flexible and any of the activities
can be undertaken as a single session or part of
a longer package. We are always delighted to tailor
our activities to suit your specific needs.
We can
also help arrange accommodation for groups of any size.

Safety
We hold a
current licence for the provision of our
activities, issued by the Adventure Authorities
Licensing
Authority (AALA).
The Adventure Activities
Licensing Authority was set up in 1995 after the Lyme Bay
sea canoeing tragedy to inspect and
assess centres
providing
activities
for under 18s.
Its inspectors
are experts in their
fields and are the only people who have
authority to examine centres. During
the course of their
work they see
every instance
of good and bad practice,
have access to the country's most qualified
technical
experts and form close links with outdoor
activities' national governing bodies.
The inspection
process is ongoing, striving to ensure
through discussion and continuous development
of
a centre's operating
procedures that activities are carried
out in the safest possible manner. Every
year or two
years, AALA inspectors go through a
centre's operating procedures with
a fine-toothed comb, examining
qualifications, staff training, emergency
procedures, risk assessments, equipment
and maintenance
of equipment. As a result millions of
activity days run throughout the country
each year,
with an excellent safety record.
